Tell Us Your Extraordinary Miele Story

We are extremely proud to announce that Miele has recently celebrated 120 years of innovation!

Our history is shaped by the Miele and Zinkann families who created Miele in 1899 with just 11 employees, four lathes and one drilling machine. Originally a cream separator manufacturer in Germany, Miele has since gone on to become the world’s leading manufacturer of premium domestic appliances with our guiding philosophy, Immer Besser – Forever Better, at the centre of everything we do.

Peter Romer: The Miele washing machine passed down the generations

Having received his Miele washing machine from his parents when he moved out of home at age 18, Peter’s washing machine has been passed down through multiple generations. Purchased in 1968, the washing machine has travelled across three countries and was given to Peter’s parents from friends who brought the machine from England to Australia. Following this, it was lent to someone else in town before finding its way back to Peter who claims that regardless of age it still washes like new!

Peter has gone above and beyond to ensure he doesn’t have to part with his Miele. Quite the handyman, he even learnt German a few years ago so that he could fix the timer on the washing machine when it needed replacing.

“The washing machine still works and functions – it still does everything it is meant to do. It’s just a simple and effective design. I remember I had to replace a timing mechanism on it. I got a new timer, a genuine Miele timer from somewhere and learnt German to figure out where everything went. That was about 5 years ago. I wouldn’t consider buying a new model unless this one was unrepairable. But I would do everything I could to repair this one first. I hope it goes for another 50 odd years – I don’t think it’s going to stop really!” said Peter.

Alison Irving: The journey of the travelling Miele washing machine

Owner of possibly one of the most well-travelled washing machines in the world, Alison has owned her Miele washing machine for over 23 years.  Originally from Scotland, Alison purchased her Miele Novotronic 5kg washing machine in 1996 and fell in love with its reliability and quality. When Alison moved to New Zealand in 1999 and then Australia in 2005, her trusty Miele travelled with her.

“I purchased my Miele purely because it was solidly built and came with a 5-year warranty – something that was hard to find! The machine worked beautifully and when we moved to New Zealand in 1999, I didn’t want to leave my Miele behind. We had engineers fix the bracket for travel, so the drum didn’t move, and the machine went via shipping crate on a boat to our new home – originally the house we were renting and  then, onto one we bought. In 2005, we moved to Australia and again, our Miele came along with us. It has become part of the family,” said Alison.

Alison’s Miele has seen the family through ups and downs and has travelled across the globe right by her family’s side. To learn more about Alison and her husband Malcom’s amazing journey with Miele, click here.

Kellie Foster: It’s a sweet life for this Miele oven

Kellie Foster has had her Miele oven for almost 20 years now and it continues to be her secret ingredient when it comes to making the fluffiest cupcakes in West Chermside, Queensland. Owner of Cupcakes by K which opened in 2009, Kellie was originally in the financial services industry before her baking dream came to life thanks to mornings spent with her H310B Miele oven and her grandmother’s cupcake recipes.

“I’m really pedantic about keeping the home-made taste in my cupcakes, so, I didn’t want to use a big commercial oven. All I wanted was consistency and I knew that mum’s Miele could produce 35 perfect cupcakes at a time and around 1,000 cupcakes a day.

I’ve only got one Miele oven, so I have a bit of a system going. I have one batch in the oven and another batch getting ready to go in, another cooling and so on. It is just so easy to use; it heats up really quickly and most importantly the cupcakes rise perfectly every time,” said Kellie.
